Basti Welfare Centre

Basti Welfare Centre is a school that aims to provide education to children from the most underprivileged and poverty-stricken areas of the city - the bastis. It was our pleasure to meet with both the teachers and children of the school and host our workshop there.

Slums are usually associated with weak and temporary housing. For children who come from such areas, hopes and dreams are rather limited. For them, having a stable house is a dream, let alone having a stable school. However, BWC reignites this dream by providing an excellent education to them.

We worked on our final project with students from grades 4-6 at the school. They were well-behaved, respectful, and very eager to learn. As part of the story-writing workshop, each child contributed creative ideas to a "horror story" we collectively created. They not only learned new words and concepts but also became budding authors. The art activities brought a lot of fun, games, and laughter. Using various materials, the children created unique artwork and designed many different things. It was truly a wonderful experience to see their creativity flourish. They truly made the world their oyster!

With our last endeavour at BWC, we finally say goodbye to the workshops at Project Sonder- a truly enriching experience that lead to the formation of so many memories. As we reflect on those memories, we gear up for stage 2- the book launch.
