School on Wheels
Help Us Help Them (HUHT) is a non-governmental organization that focuses on the overall development of underprivileged children, including education and nutrition. Their mission is to help children become responsible citizens who will contribute positively to society. One of their initiatives is called "School On Wheels," which is a mobile school on a bus. We had the opportunity to meet with these young students and even ride along with them.
HUHT has converted school buses into classrooms, making education accessible to children who may not have access to traditional classroom settings. It was our privilege to meet these children, each one of them as unique as the other. The bus stood still but our stories transported us to various lands together. The children warmed up to us immediately and were extremely polite and respectful. We played a few games, especially the 'aeroplane game'( Our most appreciated game- A fun way to learn about rising and falling actions). We even talked to them about their lives and each child had a different story to share. Discussions included new vocabulary, and finally a story filled with vivid details and a young girl named Zikra.
On day 2, we indulged in some art. Mediums included water colour, shading and even crayons. Every child brought their talent to the table and left us rather awestruck. Conversation ensued smoothly and we are confident to say that we made some new friends!
